Bargain Grocery Shopping (Economic Meltdown Tips)
By Mommy
The grocery store is not the only place to shop for groceries. Big Box marts save money for those who like to (and are able to) buy in quantity, but dollar stores, 99 cent stores, discount ‘general stores’ (like Family Dollar and Dollar General) and other independent discount and dollar stores offer big savings on groceries and household merchandise. I’ve gotten Crest toothpaste free at Dollar General when I had a coupon. You did a good job with this video!

I prefer organic veges for the health food store but At the 99 cent store here in LA you can but quality packaged organic spinach that usually sells for 3- 4 $ for 99 cents. The rest of their veges are low quality though.

Dollar stores are great. The possible reasons why there are some good buys like the Sara lee bread and others are because the packaging was done incorrectly, it’s near the expiration date and it wasn’t popular in normal supermarkets. So, technically you can get something that normally costs $4 and get it for $1 or so because of the above reasons.

The best place to buy cleaning products is at a “Janitorial Supply Store” where you can get concentrate cleaner that last because u mix it with water. You don’t have to own a cleaning business in order to buy products there. I never buy these items in a grocery store.

The dollar store has nothing but junk. You get what you pay for. Their cleaning supplies are watered down. Get the good stuff and it last longer. Watch for the sales at the good stores and stock up then.

You are so right, a few times each year we go to the dollar stores to stock up on household cleaners and toiletry products to give to the struggling students and the elderly in our family. Everything isnt cheaper but alot of it is. I bring my elderly aunts packages of gift bags because they can no longer handle wrapping gifts but still enjoy giving a festive looking gift. They can ‘wrap’ several gifts for 99cents worth of bags.

I agree with you! It’s amazing how many bargains you can get at these stores. The heck with “pride”! I’d rather save money any way I can. More people should give the dollar stores a go!

I get salad, butter, ground turkey, sliced turkey, garlic, onions, cabbage, blueberries, cherry tomatoes, green, yellow n red bell peppers, bananas, apples and onions in all colors there. I just bought a 6lb can of CONTADINA SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE THERE FOR 99.99cENTS! LOL.. love it!!

I thought spam was the lowest rung on the ladder meat out there.. Treet? yikes!.. I guess the ladder has to have feet, and that is treet.

yeah guess I am to proud to shop there. I would rather grow my own food than shop there. Oh wait I do grow or hunt most of my food already. lets break this down
deer hunting gun $120.00
ammo for deer gun $3.50 for 5 bullets
hunting license $40.00
so for $170.00 you can get you about 80Lb of meat. And that’s a pessimistic amount. If you fill your tags and get a deer with every shot you’ll have up to 500Lb of meat in the freezer Not a bad deal if you ask me.
