Ways To Save On Prescription Drugs
Prescription drugs seem to keep sky rocketing with no end in sight. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to help with your medicine bills.
Brand name drugs usually are more expensive than their generic equivalents. Ask your physician and pharmacist if a less expensive generic or an over the counter alternative is available.
Pharmacies may charge different prices for the same medicine, so call several local pharmacies. When taking a drug for a long time, 30 to 90 days or more, calling mail-order pharmacies may lower your bill even more because they often charge lower prices.
Many drugs come in different dosages, 50 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg… Ask your physician and pharmacist if it is ok and safe to order a higher dosage and split the medicine dosage into two smaller doses. For example, if you are suppose to take 50 mg and the medicine is available in a 100 mg dose, you may be able to break the higher dosage into two 50 mg units. Many times the 30 day supply of 50 mg and 100 mg may end up costing you the same. Be sure to check your copays on your prescription drug plan if you have one.
